Before Hitting Broadway, Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton Dominates Off-Broadway's Lortel Awards

Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton took home 10 trophies, winning in every category it was nominated in, at the 2015 Lucille Lortel Awards on May 10. In addition to being named Outstanding Musical, the Broadway-bound show won for stars Miranda, Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs and Renee Elise Goldsberry, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler as well as design awards for its costumes, lighting and sound.

Although the Hamilton sweep was the big news, eight other prizes celebrating the best of off-Broadway were also handed out, including three for Outstanding Play Between Riverside and Crazy, an outstanding revival prize for Fiasco Theatre's Into the Woods and Tony winner Tonya Pinkins for her performance in Rasheeda Speaking.

Anna Chlumsky and Jesse Tyler Ferguson hosted the event at NYU Skirball Center and special honors were also presented to playwright Terrence McNally, composer Jeanine Tesori and general manager Nancy Nagel Gibbs.
